Chapter 8

8:23  And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be.

division Heb. peduth, trans. "reemption."

Psalms 111:9 ; 130:7 . It is, in type, Galatians 6:14 .

8:25  And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.

in the land

The compromises proposed by Pharaoh are those urged upon Christians today. The first says in effect: "Be a Christian if you will, but not a 'narrow' one-- stay in Egypt." Invariably it ends in world-conformity, world-pleasing, and seeking the world's money for God Psalms 50:9-17 (Cf) ; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 ; Galatians 1:4 .

8:28  And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.

very far The second compromise is a modification merely of the first. "Do not be too unwordly." Cf. 1 Samuel 15:3 1 Samuel 15:9 1 Samuel 15:13-15 1 Samuel 15:19-23 .
