Chapter 6

6:2  Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

Heb. Burners. The word occurs only here. (See Scofield "Ezekiel 1:5") . The Seraphim are, in many respects, in contrast with the Cherubim, though both are expressive of the divine holiness, which demands that the sinner shall have access to divine presence only through a sacrifice which really vindicates the righteousness of God.

Genesis 3:22-24 illustrates the first; Isaiah 6:1-8 the second. The Cherubim may be said to have to do with the altar, the Seraphim with the laver. 6:13  But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.
