40 : 1 Iwaited patiently for theLord;he inclined to me andheard my cry.

40 : 2 He drew me up fromthe pit of destruction,out ofthe miry bog,andset my feet upon a rock,making my steps secure.

40 : 3 He puta new song in my mouth,a song of praise to our God.Many willsee and fear,and put their trust in theLord.

40 : 4 Blessed is the man whomakestheLordhis trust,who does not turn to the proud,to those whogo astray after a lie!
|
|
40 : 5 You have multiplied, OLordmy God,yourwondrous deeds and yourthoughts toward us;none can compare with you!I will proclaim and tell of them,yet they aremore than can be told.

40 : 6 In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,but you have given me an openear.Burnt offering and sin offeringyou have not required.

40 : 7 Then I said,Behold, I have come;in the scroll of the book it is writtenof me:

40 : 8 I delight to do your will, O my God;your law iswithin my heart.
|
|
40 : 9 I have told the glad news of deliveranceinthe great congregation;behold, I have notrestrained my lips,as you know, OLord.

40 : 10 I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulnessfrom the great congregation.

40 : 11 As for you, OLord, you will not restrainyour mercy from me;yoursteadfast love and your faithfulness willever preserve me!

|
40 : 12 For evils haveencompassed mebeyond number;myiniquities have overtaken me,and I cannotsee;they aremore than the hairs of my head;my heartfails me.

40 : 13 Be pleased, OLord, todeliver me!OLord,make haste to help me!
|
|
40 : 14 Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogetherwho seek to snatch away my life;let those beturned back and brought to dishonorwho delight in my hurt!

|
40 : 15 Let those be appalled because of their shamewhosay to me,Aha, Aha!
|
|
40 : 16 But may all who seek yourejoice and be glad in you;may those who love your salvationsay continually,Great is theLord!
|
|
40 : 17 As for me, I ampoor and needy,butthe Lord takes thought for me.You are my help and my deliverer;do not delay, O my God!
