3 : 1 On my bedby nightI soughthim whom my soul loves;I sought him, but found him not.
3 : 2 I will rise now and go about the city,inthe streets and in the squares;I will seekhim whom my soul loves.I sought him, but found him not.
3 : 3 The watchmen found meas they went about in the city.Have you seen him whom my soul loves?
3 : 4 Scarcely had I passed themwhen I foundhim whom my soul loves.Iheld him, and would not let him gountil I hadbrought him into my mother's house,and into the chamber ofher who conceived me.
3 : 5 I adjure you,O daughters of Jerusalem,by the gazelles or the does of the field,that you not stir up or awaken loveuntil it pleases.
3 : 6 What is that coming up from the wildernesslikecolumns of smoke,perfumed withmyrrh and frankincense,with all the fragrant powders of a merchant?
3 : 7 Behold, it is the litterof Solomon!Around it aresixtymighty men,some of the mighty men of Israel,
3 : 8 all of them wearing swordsand expert in war,each with hissword at his thigh,againstterror by night.
3 : 9 King Solomon made himself a carriagefrom the wood of Lebanon.
3 : 10 He made its posts of silver,its back of gold, its seat of purple;its interior was inlaid with lovebythe daughters of Jerusalem.
3 : 11 Go out, Odaughters of Zion,and look upon King Solomon,with the crown with which his mother crowned himonthe day of his wedding,on the day of the gladness of his heart.
