Hosea

10 : 1 Israel is a luxuriant vinethat yields its fruit. The more his fruit increased, the more altars he built;as his country improved,he improved his pillars.
10 : 2 Their heart is false;now they must bear their guilt.TheLordwill break down their altarsand destroy their pillars.
10 : 3 For now they will say:We have no king, for we do not fear theLord;and a king&emdash;what could he do for us?
10 : 4 They uttermere words;with empty oaths they make covenants;sojudgment springs up like poisonous weedsin the furrows of the field.
10 : 5 The inhabitants of Samaria trembleforthe calfofBeth-aven.Its people mourn for it, and so do its idolatrous priests&emdash;those who rejoiced over it andover its glory&emdash;for it has departedfrom them.
10 : 6 The thing itself shall be carried to Assyriaas tribute tothe great king.Ephraim shall be put to shame, and Israel shall be ashamedof his idol.
10 : 7 Samaria's king shall perishlike a twig on the face of the waters.
10 : 8 The high places ofAven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed.Thorn and thistle shall grow upon their altars, andthey shall say to the mountains,Cover us,and to the hills,Fall on us.
10 : 9 Fromthe days of Gibeah, you have sinned, O Israel;there they have continued.Shall not the war against the unjustovertake them in Gibeah?
10 : 10 When I please,I will discipline them, and nations shall be gathered against themwhen they are bound up fortheir double iniquity.
10 : 11 Ephraim was a trained calfthatloved to thresh, and I spared her fair neck;but I will putEphraim to the yoke;Judah must plow;Jacob must harrow for himself.
10 : 12 Sow for yourselves righteousness;reap steadfast love;break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek theLord, that he may come andrain righteousness upon you.
10 : 13 You have plowed iniquity;you have reaped injustice;you have eaten the fruit of lies.Because you have trusted in your own wayand in the multitude of your warriors,
10 : 14 thereforethe tumult of war shall arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed,asShalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle;mothers were dashed in pieces with their children.
10 : 15 Thus it shall be done to you, OBethel, because of your great evil.At dawnthe king of Israelshall be utterly cut off.
